Yobe government calls for interventions in health, education, agriculture and more

The governor of the state of Yobe and member of the Forum of Governors of the Lake Chad Basin called on development partners to complement the efforts of the state government in the areas of health, agriculture, empowerment of youth and women for further progress in the region.

Buni, represented by the Secretary of the State Government (SSG) Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali launched the appeal by presenting the Nine Territorial Action Plans during the 3rd meeting of the forum which was held from October 4 to 5 in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

The governor said that his administration had, as part of the measures to revive the health sector, especially in areas affected by the insurgency, rebuilt many health facilities destroyed while more than a hundred health centers. primary health care (PHC) have been built or expanded and rehabilitated.

“The Yobe State government has a program to provide a functioning primary health care center in each of the 178 political districts in the state.

Buni also said, “We also need to provide smallholder farmers with support for integrated agriculture to improve food security. Likewise, we need to provide financial literacy skills leading to the establishment of village savings and credit programs and credit on traditional climatic agricultural practices in order to avoid environmental degradation and desertification ”, he urged.

The governor also underscored the need for greater empowerment of youth and women in the state, to help tackle violence and extremism, especially along borders.

“One of the pillars or causes of violent extremism is poverty and lack of education. So if we are to fight violent extremism, we need to provide both education and vocational training, especially for young people. “

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitments to the implementation of its obligation, in compliance with the approved action plans for the peace, progress and unity of peoples, especially those of border areas.
